Product description

Primus Plavac mali is the first wine of our winery, which is why it got the name Primus. It comes from our most famous black local variety, Plavac mali. It has been proven that this variety is the successor of the Tribidrag variety, better known in the world as Zinfandel or Primitivo. Plavac mali gives its best releases from the southern and steep slopes of Dalmatia, such as our locations in the Komarna vineyard. What is specific to the Komarna vineyard are the organic vineyards from which this Plavac mali comes and the terroir that gives our wines excellent, unusual acidity and freshness, and in this way our wines have aging potential. Our Primus comes from our best locations after manual harvesting and strict selection, wanting to show all the splendor and character of the Plavac mali variety in this wine, with our modern approach.

VITICULTURE:

The grapes for this wine come from the most famous regional autochthonous variety, Plavac mali, from the best positions from the own ecological vineyards of the Komarna vineyard. The vineyards are located on the southern slopes of the slope and up to 30% at an altitude of 50 to 250 m. The soil is rugged, consists of stone limestone with a small proportion of soil. Wine yields per hectare are quite small, ranging from 18 to 27 HL, giving a concentrated quality of fruit and freshness. Irrigation is done only in case of exceptional dry situations.

WINEMAKING AND AGEING:

The processing and vinification processes begin with the selection of grapes after manual harvesting in our winery. The owners personally carry out the selection of grapes, wanting to be sure that the best grapes go into further production. The wine undergoes alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in a tank under controlled conditions. After that, it ages under expert control for 12 months in new barrique barrels of French and American oak. After bottling, the wine ages for a minimum of 6 months before being put on the market.

TASTING NOTES:

The wine has a ruby color of medium intensity with a hint of garnet color. On the nose, you can feel attractive notes of ripe dark fruit, raisins, plums and wild herbs typical of Plavac Mali. Full of flavor and firm structure on the palate, this wine exudes a bold freshness that goes well with most meat dishes, pizza and pasta with rich sauces.

PAIRING WITH FOOD:

Full of flavor and firm structure on the palate, this wine exudes a bold freshness that goes well with most meat dishes, pizza and pasta with rich sauces.
