The Žigljen cheese is a hard cheese that combines the best of cow's and sheep's milk, produced in Dalmatia, Lika, and Kordun. Inspired by the tradition of cheesemaking on the island of Pag, this cheese is a true Gligora classic, first created in 1996. It originated as a blend of Pag sheep's milk and cow's milk from the Zadar hinterland, due to an insufficient supply of Pag milk in the first year of production for Pag cheese. This innovative approach quickly gained popularity, making Žigljen a beloved cheese recognized for its unique combination of flavors.
Žigljen has a pronounced aroma and flavor, with a compact texture. It matures for a minimum of 6 months, and its distinctive texture and rich taste make it versatile in the kitchen, perfect for enjoying in various dishes. A recipient of several international awards, it is a testament to its premium quality. Žigljen is best stored at temperatures between 4-16°C.
Note: Cheeses ordered through the webshop are delivered via courier service in cardboard packaging, and during the summer months, in thermal packaging. All cheeses are vacuum-packed (whole wheel, half, or quarter).
