Product description

Žigljen is a hard cheese that combines the best of cow’s and sheep’s milk, produced in Dalmatia, Lika, and Kordun. Inspired by the tradition of cheese-making on the island of Pag, this cheese is a true Gligora classic that was created in 1996. It began as a blend of Pag sheep’s milk and cow’s milk from the Zadar hinterland, as there was not enough Pag sheep’s milk for the production of Pag cheese in the first year. This innovative approach quickly gained market acceptance, and Žigljen became a beloved cheese, recognized for its unique combination of flavors.

Žigljen has a pronounced aroma and flavor, with a compact texture. It ages for 3 to 6 months, and its distinctive texture and rich taste make it versatile in the kitchen, perfect for enjoying in various dishes. It has won several international awards, confirming its premium quality.

Žigljen should be stored at a temperature of 10-12 °C.

Note: Cheeses ordered via the webshop are shipped by delivery service, in cardboard packaging, with thermo packaging used in the summer months. All cheeses are vacuum-sealed (whole wheel, half, or quarter).
