Product description

Drniš region is particularly famous for prosciutto. Drniš prosciutto is distinguished by its special quality, which is the result of the micro-climatic specificities of the Drniš area and the famous sharp bora. Traces of pig farming in Drniš date back to approximately 1500 years ago. BC, and the first reliable data on production in this area were recorded in the Šibenik Statute in the 14th century. Drniški prosciutto became a market brand in 1969. when large amounts of production have been reached.

Drniš prosciutto is also interesting, namely, it was served at the coronation celebration of the British Queen Elizabeth II in 1952. Therefore, on the occasion of the golden jubilee, marking the 50th anniversary of the accession to the throne, the City of Drniš gave the Queen a gift of Drniš prosciutto. On this occasion, the mayor received a letter of thanks from Her Majesty, which is kept in the Drniš City Museum.

2012 Drniš prosciutto is certified by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Croatia as a product with protected geographical origin.
